Furniture testing staff train in U.K.
July 17, 2013

The three technical staff of the FPRDI Furniture Testing Center (FFTC) recently completed a comprehensive training course in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom on the flammability testing of furniture products. Held last 20 to 30 May 2013, the course was conducted by the Furniture Industry Research Association International Ltd. (FIRA).

The training acquired by Engrs. Victor G. Revilleza, Alvin F. Vardeleon and Edward Paul Marasigan covered all aspects of flammability testing including cigarette, match flame and crib tests for a wide range of products, i.e., seats, pillows, cushions and mattresses and bed bases. The test procedures follow British Standards (BS), European Standards (EN) and ISO standards.

Engr. Revilleza, FFTC Technical Manager, said, “We are very satisfied with our training at FIRA. Our trainer, Barry Worrell who is a veteran in his field, gave excellent explanations and demonstrations that made the procedures very clear to us. We were also exposed to different test situations that required us to evaluate the results.”

Flammability testing is a tool for assuring users of approved furniture that the products will not catch fire or burn easily. (Victor G. Revilleza, 17 July 2013)
