DOST-FPRDI Director is 2015 Outstanding Professional Forester

Dr. Romulo T. Aggangan, Director IV of the Department of Science and Technology- Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI), has been named the 2015 Outstanding Professional of the Year in the field of Forestry. The award was given by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) last 18 June 2015 at the Manila Hotel.
The “Outstanding Professional of the Year Award” is the highest award conferred by the PRC to professionals who demonstrated “competence in the highest degree and conducted himself/herself with integrity in the exercise of his/her profession, participated meaningfully in professional activities, contributed significantly to the advancement of the profession, and to the effective discharge of the profession’s social responsibility and other worthwhile socio-related activities.”
Aggangan has been the DOST-FPRDI Director since 2010. Prior to his stint at the Institute, he was the Director of the Forestry and Environment Research Division of the DOST- Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD).
Aggangan is also the focal person of the ASEAN Expert Group on Forest Products Development underthe ASEAN Senior Officials in Forestry (ASOF). The ASOF is responsible for policy coordination and decision-making in regional cooperation in the forestry sector and is guided by the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry. He is also a member of the Commission on Higher Education’s Technical Committee on Forestry.
Aggangan obtained his BS in Forestry and MS in Forestry degrees from the University of the Philippines Los Baños, and PhD in Biological and Environmental Sciences (major in Forest Ecology/Soils) from the Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia.
Among his professional organizations include the Society of Filipino Foresters, Inc.; Forests and Natural Resources Research Society of the Philippines, Inc.; Philippines Association of Research Managers, Inc.; and the Philippine – Australia Alumni Association, Inc. ### (Apple Jean C.
