November 19, 2012

Besting 29 other entries, Engr. Dante B. Pulmano’s poster titled “Design and Fabrication of a Bamboo Flattening Machine” won 2nd place in the Best Research and Development Poster category in the recently concluded 25th Regional Symposium on Research and Development Highlights of the Southern Tagalog Agriculture and Resources Research and Development Consortium (STARRDEC).

“The FPRDI-developed bamboo flattening machine can flatten bamboo culms into planks to create engineered bamboo products (EBPs) such as laminated veneers and laminated bamboo veneer lumbers, structural strand composites, fine boards and particleboards. These EBPs can be turned into furniture pieces, construction components, and handicrafts,” explained Pulmano, a Senior Science Research Specialist at FPRDI’s Technology Innovation Division.

For the second consecutive year, the FPRDI was also recognized as STARRDEC’s Best Participating Consortium Member Agency.

Participated in by 23 member agencies and 36 Farmers’ Information and Technology Services (FITS) Centers, the symposium was held on 23 October 2012 at the Cultural Center of the Provincial Capitol of Sta. Cruz, Laguna. ### (Apple Jean C. Martin, 06 November 2012)
