FPRDI chemists present papers at international forest products convention
July 19, 2012
FPRDI chemists Ms. Irma I. Palanginan and Ms. Mariluz SP. Dionglay of the Chemistry and Biotechnology Section, Material Science Division, were among the paper presenters at the 66th Forest Products Society International Convention in Washington DC, USA last 3-5 June 2012.
Ms. Palanginan discussed her study “Evaluation of lemon-scented gum (Corymbia citriodora) volatile oil against termites”,while Ms. Dionglay presented “Characterization and end-uses of Dipterocarp oleoresin (D. alatus and D. intricus) from Cambodia.”
According to Ms. Palanginan, “The convention brought together scientists, design professionals, managers and policy makers from the academe, government, as well as non-profit and private industry sectors. Its focus was on the state of forest products research worldwide and latest innovations in the field. It challenged us to gear our research at FPRDI towards finding solutions for a global green economy. We were also able to identify promising R&D areas which the Institute could possibly explore or improve its capability in. These include biomass-derived adhesives and green chemicals, bioenergy and biofuels, nanocellulose technology, and renewable energy from woody biomass and bio-remediation.” (Rizalina K.
