FPRDI gets new furniture testing machines
June 18, 2012
Five million pesos-worth of state-of-the-art equipment were recently acquired by the Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) to beef up its Furniture Testing Center (FFTC). The new equipment include the chair rotation test machine which evaluates the swivelling and rolling resistance of rotating chairs; goal post test machine that performs fatigue and static load tests on all types of chairs and beds; side-to-side durability test machine for office chairs; and arm durability test machine for arms of chairs.
“With this new addition to FFTC’s modern facilities, we are better able to help local manufacturers improve the quality and design of their furniture, and help them get a bigger share of the market,” said Mr. Victor Revilleza, FFTC’s Technical Manager.
Established with funding support from the DOST Grants-In-Aid, the International Tropical Timber Organization, and recently from the 2011 general appropriation capital outlay, the FFTC is the lone furniture testing facility in the country after the closure of the Bureau of Product Standards’ (BPS) furniture testing laboratory and the transfer of the Bureau Veritas’ testing center to China. ### (Apple Jean C.
