Director Aggangan keynotes new foresters’ oathtaking
October 14, 2015
Director Romulo T. Aggangan of DOST-FPRDI speaks before this year’s new batch of forestry professionals during the Oathtaking Ceremonies for New Foresters held last 4 September 2015 at the Century Park Hotel in Malate, Manila.
Named earlier this year as the 2015 Outstanding Professional Forester by the Professional Regulation Commission, Dir. Aggangan encouraged the new foresters to strive to be excellent for the sake of being excellent, not only in their respective upcoming careers but also in the way they deal with their fellowmen, and in how they conduct themselves in all other areas of life.
Dir. Aggangan’s speech revolved around the story of Fred Shea, a mailman working with the US Postal Service. Shea has become famous across the US after having been featured in many seminars and a bestselling book because of the exemplary way he carried out his day-to-day tasks for many decades as a postman in a small town in Denver.
“If a mere mailman can find ways throughout his entire career to bring remarkable service in what many consider a monotonous, dead-end job, then how much more can be expected of you, our newly minted forestry professionals?,” Dir. Aggangan said.
“The road ahead of you is far from monotonous and dead-end. It is brimming with possibilities as you are committing yourselves to a noble goal any patriotic Filipino will deem worthy of his best – helping protect and restore the country’s priceless forest resources,” he concluded.
