FPRDI Conducts Bamboo Preservation and Finishing Training for LGU-Antequera, Bohol

The Department of Science and Technology - Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) conducted a three-day training on bamboo preservation and finishing last 04-07 April 2016 in Antequera, Bohol.

Organized by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)- Bohol and the local government unit (LGU) of Antequera, Bohol, the training taught 13 Sto. Rosario Bamboocraft Association members, five LGU members, two DTI- Bohol staff and two housewives from the municipality the proper way of applying finishes and preservative treatment to various bamboo products.

According to Mr. Julian O. Roxas of FPRDI’s Training and Manpower Development Services Section, “The participants learned about the step-by-step process of bamboo finishing – from surface preparation of furniture and handicrafts, until the application of finishes. They were also taught the proper way of wearing protection gadgets, preparing and applying preservative solution and handling of treated raw materials.”

Hailed as the Basket Capital of Bohol, Antequera is also a source of well-crafted bamboo furniture. "The three-day training provided the participants additional knowledge and skills on raw materials treatment and basic finishing systems which will help upgrade their livelihood," says Tarcisia R.
