Women from three ethnic groups learned handmade papermaking and converting in a training conducted by the DOST- Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) last 24-25 May 2017 at the LGU Training Center in Angadanan, Isabela.
Thirty-two women from the Ibanag, Gaddang and Yogad groups were trained on manual papermaking using agricultural wastes such as cogon grass, abaca and recycled paper.
DOST-FPRDI’s Mr. Justino C. Buendia (upper photos, in green) demonstrated the processes in making handmade paper, while Ms. Fe P. Frialde (lower photo, in aqua shirt) lectured on the conversion of handmade paper into novelty items such as tissue holders, scrapbooks, gift wrappers and boxes.
“The LGU of Angadanan, Isabela saw the potential of handmade papermaking as a livelihood option in their municipality. The training served as a venue to learn about the recent trends on handmade paper production and handmade paper business,” said For. Moreno Santander Jr. of DOST-FPRDI’s Training and Manpower Development Services Section.
The activity was made possible through the collaboration of the LGU of Angadanan, Isabela, Department of Trade and Industry- Isabela and DOST-FPRDI. ### (Apple Jean Martin- de Leon & Moreno L. Santander, 13 June 2017)
