As an offshoot to last year’s activity conducted with the Office of the Vice President of the Philippines, the DOST-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) held a seminar on bamboo processing and utilization last 15 February 2018 in Taysan, Batangas. The participants, mostly women, are bamboo stick makers from Brgys. Pinagbayanan, Bukal and San Isidro in Taysan.
“We hope that by discussing the various potential of bamboo as a raw material, the women of Taysan and nearby communities will be able to expand their product lines apart from bamboo sticks,” said Dr. Rico J. Cabangon of FPRDI’s Engineered Products and Development Section. He suggested the use of DOST-FPRDI’s equipment to improve the production efficiency of bamboo sticks.
“The Institute’s bamboo processing technologies such as kiln drying, and seasoning and preservation techniques, among others, can also help enhance the productivity of these communities,” Cabangon added.
