The DOST- Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) invites professional designers and students to join the 2019 Rubberwood Furniture Design Contest

Contest Mechanics:
1. The contest has two categories:
a. Professional = (Designers working in a firm)
b. Non-professional (College students from Philippine schools of fine arts, industrial design and architecture)
2. The entry must be new and must not have been commercially manufactured. Entries that have won in previous furniture design contests will not be accepted.
3. Participants are allowed to submit at most 2 entries. Each must be accompanied with an application form.
4. Submit the following documents on or before June 28, 2019:
a. 3D images and working design of the furniture, either in printed form (A4 size paper) or in CD-ROM (JPEG file format, 300 DPI)
b. A short write-up describing the details of the design, concept innovations, primary function and other relevant information (in Word format; maximum of 200 words)
c. Duly accomplished application form

5. Finalists will be provided with chemically-treated and kiln-dried rubberwood lumber to fabricate the prototypes.
6. Non-professional designers, particularly those residing within the vicinity of the project site, will have free access to any woodworking equipment and facility at the Rubberwood Processing Center in Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.
7. In fabricating the prototypes, the rubberwood lumber may be reprocessed (i.e. finger-jointed, glue-laminated, etc.) to suit the design requirements.
8. No nails should be used in the fabrication of prototypes. Jointing system should be fastened with dowels, screws or other appropriate fitting accessories.
9. Preliminary judging will be on July 2, 2019 where 10 finalists per category will be chosen.
10. Finalists must submit finished prototypes on or before August 16, 2019. Prototypes shall be shipped to Zamboanga Sibugay for final judging.
11. Submitted prototypes will become the property of the DOST-FPRDI to be used for office and exhibit display.

Prizes for the professional category:
1st prize - Php 30,000.00
2nd prize – Php 20,000.00
3rd prize – Php 10,000.00
Finalists – Php 3,000.00 each

Prizes for non-professional category:
1st prize - Php 20,000.00
2nd prize - Php 15,000.00
3rd prize – Php 10,000.00
Finalists – Php 2,500.00 each
