For. Escobin receives UPLB-CFNR Service Award
Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) Scientist Ramiro P. Escobin received the Outstanding Institutional Service Award for Research Utilization during the UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources’ (CFNR) 104th Foundation Day and Alumni Homecoming. The awarding was held on 25 April 2014 at the CFNR Auditorium.
Dr. Escobin was cited for being “one of the country’s leading wood identification experts who has been instrumental in the implementation of Executive Order 23 particularly on authentic identification and as court witness in litigation cases on confiscated logs; and for his numerous S&T services to research institutions, the academe and forest-based industries on the identification, botanical description and end-use classification of timber and non-timber forest products.”

He has published many technical articles, authored 22 books mainly on forest botany, and registered 22 copyrights. He also curates FPRDI’s Wood and Herbarium Library, an internationally recognized facility which houses 16,078 specimens of local and foreign wood samples.
Dr. Escobin joined FPRDI in 1981 and has since made a mark as a botanist and wood identification specialist. He was conferred the rank of Scientist 1 in the DOST Scientific Career System in 2008. ### (Apple Jean C. Martin, 05 May 2014)
