The DOST-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI) celebrates its 63rd anniversary this year with a series of events that highlight its commitment to better serve its clients in the midst of the pandemic.
“During these difficult days, we are witnesses to how the nation manages to stay afloat through social solidarity,” said DOST-FPRDI Director Romulo T. Aggangan. “This year’s anniversary celebrates the Filipino people’s innate bayanahin spirit, as it also underlines the Institute’s unwavering support to help the public battle the effects of COVID-19.”
Another adopter for DOST-FPRDI bamboo-framed face shield

A Bataan-based company is now mass producing the bamboo-framed face shield developed by the DOST-Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI).
Following the Institute’s design and specifications, the QGM Plant Nursery and Garden (QGM-PNG) has recently started commercially producing the face shields. DOST-FPRDI gave technical assistance on the steam-bending technology— the process wher ein bamboo strips for the frame are heated to flex them into the desired form. The Institute will likewise help the company with any production-related issue, and assist in technology improvement if needed.
Upcoming concert to showcase bamboo musical instruments

Attention ethnic music enthusiasts.
The rich diversity of the country’s bamboo musical instruments will be put on full display in a Virtual Concert happening on November 24, 2020.
Sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology’s Forest Products Research and Development Institute (DOST-FPRDI), the event will showcase a wide range of bamboo musical instruments which will be played by six groups of performing artists from all over the Philippines.
