FPRDI staff obtain graduate degrees

The Forest Products Research and Development Institute-DOST now has 13 PhD and 42 MS degree holders, as three staff members completed their graduate studies last April.

Mr. Loreto A. Novicio, Senior Science Research Specialist at the Institute’s Planning Staff, now holds a doctorate degree in Education, major in Educational Management and minor in Agricultural Extension from the Cavite State University. Novicio’s major courses included strategic planning, strategic human resource management, institutional resource management, organizational finance management, and advanced research methods.

They may be temporarily incarcerated, but that does not limit the inmates at the Pasay City Jail from exploring some livelihood options.

The Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) conducted the “Seminar-Forum on Paper Recycling and Paper Product Development” for the 35 inmates and 4 Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) staff last 12 April 2013. This activity was initiated by Jail Superintendent Brendan O. Fulgencio, Warden of Pasay City Jail.

FPRDI trains Smokey Mountain-based Coop on leaf skeletonizing

What used to be the country's biggest, most notorious landfill is now a spot where a handicraft-making group thrives.

Members of the Smokey Mountain-based group Sambayanan ng Muling Pagkabuhay Cooperative were recently trained by the Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) on the new method of leaf skeletonizing. The training was held last 10 April 2013 and was facilitated by Mr. Cesar O. Austria and Ms. Teresita B. Cosico, Senior Science Research Specialist and Training Coordinator, respectively, at FPRDI’s Technical Services Division (TSD).
