For. Escobin receives UPLB-CFNR Service Award

Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) Scientist Ramiro P. Escobin received the Outstanding Institutional Service Award for Research Utilization during the UPLB College of Forestry and Natural Resources’ (CFNR) 104th Foundation Day and Alumni Homecoming. The awarding was held on 25 April 2014 at the CFNR Auditorium.

Dr. Escobin was cited for being “one of the country’s leading wood identification experts who has been instrumental in the implementation of Executive Order 23 particularly on authentic identification and as court witness in litigation cases on confiscated logs; and for his numerous S&T services to research institutions, the academe and forest-based industries on the identification, botanical description and end-use classification of timber and non-timber forest products.”

FPRDI invites entrepreneurs, academe, LGU to training courses

The Forest Products Research and Development Institute (FPRDI) has lined up a series of training courses for those interested in learning the basics of handmade paper production, bamboo processing, and wood identification and preservation. Each course includes a thorough discussion of the topic, followed by a demonstration and hands-on exercises.

FPRDI bags 2nd place in NRCP Scientific Poster Competition

The Forest Products Research and Development Institute- Department of Science and Technology (FPRDI-DOST) poster won 2nd prize in the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP) Scientific Poster Competition held during NRCP’s 81st General Membership Assembly last 26 March 2014 at the Manila Hotel.

FPRDI Scientist Arsenio B. Ella, For. Florena B. Samiano and For. Emmanuel P. Domingo’s poster won under Cluster 1- Governmental, Educational and International Policies / Social Science / Humanities category. Titled “Enhancing the Adaptive Capacity of Indigenous Peoples by Promoting Sustainable Community-Based Resin Tapping of Almaciga (Agathis philippinensis Warb.) in Palawan and Sierra Madre, Philippines”, it underscores the need for a scientific and sustainable tapping of resin-producing trees, specifically almaciga.
