Material Science Division holds QMS seminar-workshop
July 26, 2012
Dr. Dwight A. Eusebio, Chief of the Material Science Division (MSD), speaks at the opening of the division’s Seminar-Workshop for the Efficient Implementation and Improvement of Quality Management System (QMS) held last 24-25 May and 4-5 June 2012.
QMS is a set of coordinated activities designed to help an organization meet ISO standards in all areas of operations. It aims to provide consistency in methods and materials, and interacts with all activities of the organization, starting with identifying customer requirements and ending with their satisfaction. The goal is for the organization to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of its performance.
According to Dr. Eusebio, “We conducted the training because we wanted our staff to have a better grasp of QMS and their respective roles in it. The only way for the system to succeed is for everyone concerned to become fully involved.”
FPRDI established its QMS in 2009 as required by the Arroyo administration among all government agencies. (Rizalina K. Araral, 25 July 2012)#

Dr. Tamayo, Ms. Lapuz and Ms. Adelina M. Manto attended training courses on the operation of the Perkin Elmer Differential Scanning Calorimetry and Perkin Elmer Thermogravimetic Analyzer, advanced equipment for analyzing materials’ reaction to heat. The courses were held at Wisma Academy, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia last 4-6 June 2012.
Says Ms. Lapuz, “The techniques and principles that we have learned will be useful in our analyses of various forest-based and related materials at FPRDI. They will be helpful in our testing services, and research projects on adhesives, coatings, fire retardants and biocomposites, bioenergy, heat treatment, among others.” (Rizalina K.
