Punzalan attends ASEAN meeting on regional websites
October 8, 2012

Ms. Maylin M. Punzalan of FPRDI’s Planning Staff attended the Technical Meeting on Regional Websites for ASEAN Forestry Cooperation last 12-14 September 2012 in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The event was intended to train representatives from ASEAN countries on the use and management of the ASEAN Regional Knowledge Network on Forest Product Development (ARKN-FPD) website.

“Launched July this year, the ARKN-FPD website serves as a platform for the exchange of information on forest products,” explained Punzalan. “Thru the website, the public can access recent forest-related technologies, products, and publications of ASEAN-member countries which include Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam,” she added. According to Punzalan, the FPRDI was one of the agencies in the Philippines tasked to manage and update the website.

The technical meeting was organized by the ASEAN Social Forestry Network (ASFN), a network composed of policy-makers, research organizations, academe, and public and private sectors in the Southeast Asian region committed to advance sustainable forest management and capacitate the forest-dependent communities in the region.

“FPRDI researchers and techno-transfer staff could take advantage of this website to learn about emerging trends and developments in the ASEAN forestry sector,” Punzalan concluded. ### (Apple Jean C. Martin, 28 September 2012)
